Born on
December 28th 1938, he holds his license since 1959
and works as a food distributor.
Lon is considered one
of the American top amateur drivers. To date, he has
won 186 races in his career and driven the winners of
nearly $750,000 US. |
Lon is
also a director the United States Trotting Association
and chairman of USTA District 8 (New York). He was the
founder of the Women’s International Trot, showcasing
the finest female drivers from the USA, Canada,
Europe, Australia, New Zealand, England, and Ireland,
and is very active in the promotion of amateur racing.
He is a charter member of the C.K.G. Billings Amateur
Driving Series. He has served in various executive
capacities for Harness Horsemen’s International and
for 35 years was the president of the Harness Horse
Association of Central New York. A longtime director
of the Morrisville College Foundation Board, Lon also
serves on the Advisory Board for the Syracuse Mile.
Although Lon has been active as a driver/trainer for
years, he has had his most success in the sport as an
owner.
His top horse was Sportsmaster, who won nine of
33 lifetime starts and earned $755,803 in a two-year
career in 1991 and 1992. He was the richest 2-year-old
in ’91 with earnings of $727,563 and set his mark of
1:52.1 in the $889,000 Woodrow Wilson Final at The
Meadowlands.
