The gentlemen amateurdriver, Giuseppe
Lombardo, 57 years, died at the "La Favorita ippodromo" in Palermo
PALERMO (May 3) - The gentlemen amateurdriver, Giuseppe Lombardo, 57
years, died at the "La Favorita ippodrom" in Palermo before the
third race of trotting meeting scheduled today.
Lombardo was caught by illness and has been dropped from sulky when
the horses were already lined up for the start: Giuseppe was
transported to the hospital Villa Sofia, where he was declared dead,
perhaps for a heart attack. The meeting, which included nine races
in total, was suspended after this trgic accident!

driver gentlemen, Giuseppe Lombardo, 57 anni, è
morto all'ippodromo La Favorita di Palermo prima della partenza
della terza corsa della riunione di trotto in programma oggi (3
maggio 2008)
Lombardo è stato
colto da malore ed è caduto dal sulky quando i cavalli erano già
allineati per il via: è stato soccorso e trasportato all'ospedale
Villa Sofia, dove è stato dichiarato morto, forse per un infarto. La
riunione, che prevedeva nove corse in tutto, è stata sospesa dopo la
successiva corsa, la quarta.

Con
grande dolore le comunico la scomparsa del mio amato
compagno Beppe Lombardo. L'uomo semplice e
meraviglioso,di grande bontà,pieno di passione e dell'amore
per la vita e per la natura. Un guidatore corretto,serio e
regolare,di indubbia intelligenza tattica. Felice di aver
conosciuto i gentleman partecipanti al campionato
europeo,orgoglioso di potersi misurare e confrontare con
loro, e molto onorato di aver avuto quest'opportunità cosi
importante per lui. Grazie infinite a tutte le persone che
abbiamo conosciuto, che ci hanno reso i momenti del
campionato europeo in belgio felici, straordinari ed
indimenticabili.
Vorrei porgere i miei saluti a tutti ricordando una
bellissima frase di beppe:
"niente puo essere
bello se non si condivide." |

With great pain i have to announce the
death of my beloved friend
Beppe Lombardo.
The simple and wonderful man of great goodness, full of
passion and love for life and nature. A good driver, serious
and regular, with big race-tactics intelligence. Beppe was
so happy to know the gentleman participating in the European
championship, proud to be able to measure and compare with
them, and very honoured to have had this opportunity so
important for him. Thank you very much to all the people we
know, have made the moments of the European championship in
Belgium happy, extraordinary and unforgettable. I would like
to extend my greetings to all recalling a beautiful phrase
from Beppe:
"Nothing can be
beautiful, if we do not share with other people." |

Giuseppe Lombardo,
born in Palermo on 21/09/51 is presently working as a chemist in
his own Lombardo chemist-shop in Terrasini. His wife is Prof.
Adriana Cordova and he has two children: Eleonora and Corrado.
He’s a very distinguished sportsman, former water-polo player.
He got his trotting driving license in 1982 and has been driving
most time in Palermo “La Favorita” race-track. He’s also a
breeder and his colts are named by “Fiori” ”flowers” in Italian
language) , among which we can record the well-known “Brandy dei
fiori” horse, 15 times winner in a Grand Prix race.
