Arriving at Schiphol Amsterdam Airport you can take a direct train to Heerenveen (2 hour trip) which city is very close to our Hotel Tjaarda in Oranjewoud, it will take by taxi about 10 minutes to the hotel. When you are arriving early you can also take the opportunity to visit Amsterdam by taking the train to Amsterdam Central Station which trains are going about every 10 minutes.
Direct trains from Schiphol Amsterdam Airport to Heerenveen are leaving every hour at xx.33, the train is heading for Leeuwarden and leaves from platform 1 or 2 which will be announced by speaker and screens.
Our advice is to take the direct train however you can also take the train at xx.03, platform 1 or 2, who is heading for Groningen but than you have to change train in Zwolle (arriving at platform 6) and take from there the train direction Leeuwarden from platform 7, exit of course at Heerenveen again, total travel time will be the same (2 hour).
When you decide to visit Amsterdam first than you take the train to Heerenveen from Amsterdam Central but you have to make a overstep this way. At xx.01 you take the train direction Amersfoort from platform 10b, change train in Amersfoort and go to platform 1 for the train direction Leeuwarden and exit at Heerenveen (2 hour trip). Second option from Amsterdam Central is the train leaving at xx.37 from platform 7 in direction of Lelystad, change train in Almere and go to platform 4 for train to direction Leeuwarden, exit at Heerenveen (2 hour trip).
People who use Ryanair are normally flying in to Eindhoven Airport! Let us know if you need help for this connection.
Always pay attention yourself to announcements and screens to be at the right platform and in the right train.
Hotel Tjaarda (www.tjaarda.nl) is very nice located in a lovely wooded area just outside of Heerenveen. The hotel has also a spa and welness centre. It will be our hotel for the first 2 nights. The adress is : Koningin Julianaweg 98, 8453 WH Oranjewoud.
Going home: departure from our sunday night hotel, Hotel Van der Valk in Akersloot, can also be done by train but maybe taking a taxi together to Schiphol Amsterdam Airport will be the easiest solution (½ hour trip). Than by train you always have to make a overstep to reach Schiphol Amsterdam Airport. Trains are leaving from nearby station Uitgeest, leaving at xx.12 or xx.42 from platform 1b direction Rotterdam, change train in Zaandam for direction Hoofddorp at platform 5, exit at Schiphol Amsterdam Airport (40 minutes trip). Not much time for changing trains.
Hotel Van der Valk in Akersloot (www.hotelakersloot.nl) is only 15 minutes from Alkmaar Racetrack. This nice hotel has a swimming pool and fitness room. The adress is: Geesterweg 1A, 1921 NV Akersloot.
